The right steps to design socks
There are introductions about custom sock design of our company, after skimming carefully ,you can get touch with us for further discussion to knit out your design on the socks.
There are much difference between designing for socks or other knitted goods and designing for printed .We provide a brief guide in the following to make sense how socks are designed and that how design alters from the first pixel on the screen to the last stitch of yarn on the machine.
Like preparing an offset printer to produce a single design for a printed good, setting up a knitting machine for a single sock design is the first step for knitting. However, we also should make a mass of preparation well before knitting begins.
1. Design a pattern
Classic patterns including argyles, polka dots, and stripes are designs that consistently execute well. We are also capable to knit a variety of different patterns. To upgrade the quality of designs well, we have several tips in the following.
As for repeating patterns, the importance of the size of individual assets in the design should be attached .Always remember that designs on a sock stretch when worn. When it too big, the image will become very big as it stretches around the wearer’s ankle or foot.,instead ,the design will not render legibly on the sock.
2. Design color
The match of colors and the number used in a design will also influence the execution of the sock. One of the most general rule is to use no more than 8 colors in a single design (including the background, heel, toe and top colors), and of those, no more than 5 colors can change through one horizontal line of the sock.In brief, the fewer colors are used, the more complex designs execute better
When the color changes, the yarn of that color is cut and then tied off inside the sock. The fewer cuts, the better designs , whose frequent color changes are bulkier, don’t stretch as easily, and have a higher risk of knitting errors.
Color accuracy is essential for combining design and production, below is a picture on how to prefect the right TCX colors to achieve color accuracy well.
Sock Printing
As for typography on socks, our suggestion is that the text on socks is kept to a minimum. The production file for knitting should be prepared as a 168-pixel (for 168 needle machines) wide bitmap image. This is a fixed size, the smaller the type, the poorer the legibility. If a logotype or byline must be contained, we recommend placing it on the foot-back of the sock. This assures that the type will not be distorted by the stretch , and that the main pattern will not be contorted.
Before creating the knit-ready file , there is a process typical :transferring a vector design or otherwise into a production sized bitmap image, which will be done by our skilled team. Then our knitting technicians use this file to program a knitting machine to transpose each individual pixel in the file to a stitch on the sock.
Once your design is finished, we will review it to make certain it meets the required technical specifications. Be sure to send us your native files and PDF, then we will suggest changes if it’s necessary to make sure it will be the best sock excepted.
